  • Newf Rescue Foster Homes Needed
Between the time a Newfoundland Dog is taken into the rescue program and the time it goes to its new home, the dog is cared for in a foster home. CNC is looking for more volunteer club members to provide foster care to these dogs in need. Please click here for more information on volunteering. If you can help and you are a member in good standing of CNC, please contact our Rescue Chair:

Please note that, due to club liability insurance constraints, the CNC Board of Directors has established a policy that only CNC members in good standing may foster dogs in the CNC rescue program.

Open Swim Dates at Codorus
The "Open Swim Dates at Codorus" listed on our Calendar have been set up with the management of Codorus State Park to allow CNC members (and members of other regional NCA clubs) to train water work with their dogs. While these open swim dates are "official" CNC events, they are very informal and only loosely coordinated through Dwight Gorsuch. If you are interested in participating, contact Dwight by email at bearnmind@baybroadband.net to get on the email list of interested persons. It is only through that email list that you can find out who (if anyone) plans to train on a particular date, whether anyone will be bringing a boat, and so on.

The etiquette for these open swim dates is based on mutual cooperation and support. They are not events where you can just show up, get help working with your dog, and leave. It is important to remember that, especially when starting out, you can learn as much or more from helping other people train as you can from working with your own dogs. Members are expected to give at least as much as they receive: stewarding for each other, offering help and/or advice when asked, assisting with boats and other equipment, and pitching in as much as they can to make the experience pleasant and rewarding for everyone involved.

Non-Member Participation in CNC Events
Non-members are invited to our Spring and Fall Fun Days as a way to get to know members of the club before joining. Non-members are also welcome to attend any of our events as spectators, respecting the boundaries of the event and staying well back from them especially if they are accompanied by their dogs. Unfortunately, the cost and terms of our insurance have caused us to limit participation in events other than the Fun Days to members of CNC or other NCA regional clubs.

If you are not a member of CNC or another NCA regional club and you want to participate in club activities other than the Fun Days, please contact Judy Van Dyke to get a membership application form or to ask questions about membership in our club. We hope you'll join!

Newfoundland Rescue
One of the most important of the club's activities is rescuing unwanted or abandoned Newfs. When a club member is made aware of a Newfoundland in need, rescue operations immediately begin. The dog is brought into the club's fold, placed in a foster home, given any required veterinary care, and evaluated for temperament and socialization. If the dog is adoptable, the search for a new family begins. This is a great way to acquire a Newf that will be eternally grateful for his new home
